If you are a regular follower of this blog, you will know that I live in South Africa. If you are a regular follower of South Africa (perhaps a shakier presumption – many South Africans aren’t), then you will appreciate what a bizarre, smile-inducing place this can be. This point was never clearer than at the traffic lights over the last three days where, on three separate occasions I received pamphlets like this. And this. And this.
In Johannesburg, a city comparable to many in the world in its size and access to developed-nation standards of medical care, luxury items, expensive cars and every other flashy service and bling item that modernity can thrust at you anywhere else in the world, it is refreshing to see that Professor Mamba and Associates can still ensure excellent school grades even for children with mental disabilities. Not just that – I can be guaranteed to be loved and get my loved one out of prison in 5 days. I was mildly concerned after my brother hilighted that both Professor Mamba and Prof Wakho & Dr Ismeal claim to have won Herbalist of the Year in 2007, but I suppose it must have simply been a joint award. Wakho & Ismeal are also the proud winners of the East African Control Council Award for Life-time achievement in Astrology & Herbal Healing (I tried to Google the EACC, but unfortunately they do not appear to have a website).
Oh South Africa – you are so damned strange some days.
Addendum. Professor Mamba, it appears, has in fact been around for quite some time, if previous commentary on his advertising is to be believed. Though it appears that he has re-based himself from Pretoria to Johannesburg. Prof Wakho has been around since at least November of last year.
